Starting Lineup

Jamie · Eoghan · Caragh · Ruairi · Elliot · Crystal · Samera · Ruairi McG · David · Aidan · Joshua

Celtic focuses on a heavy press and quick transitions in a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition. The goal is to suffocate the opponent in their own half and hit them quickly before they can organize.

Jamie stays between the posts to command the area. The back line works as a flat back four with Ruairi acting as a defensive wing back on the right to help keep the width. On the left, Ruairi McG pushes forward to support the attack while Caragh and Eoghan sit as the central defenders. Caragh and Eoghan need to be dominant in the air and ready to sweep behind a high line to deal with any long balls. The defensive unit stays compact to ensure they do not get caught out when the full backs push up.

The midfield works in a five man unit to control the center of the pitch. Crystal sits in a single pivot role to shield the defence and recycle possession. Aidan and Elliot operate as the two central midfielders, with Aidan driving forward with the ball while Elliot works to intercept passes and cover the spaces. David and Samera play as the two attacking midfielders in the half spaces, tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and link the midfield to the attack.

Celtic uses a lone striker in Joshua to lead the line. Joshua acts as a pressing centre forward to force the opposition back line into mistakes. David and Samera operate as two attacking midfielders who look to arrive late into the box to support the lone striker. The team attacks in combinations, using the wide players to pull the defence apart before looking to play through the lines. This setup creates many runs in behind and allows the wide midfielders to deliver crosses into the area.

This formation offers a massive advantage in terms of compactness when defending a mid block. The five man midfield makes it very difficult for opponents to find space between the lines. Celtic can also use the high pressing of Samera and David to create immediate chances in transition. This allows the team to transition from a defensive block to a direct attack with great speed.

The 4-5-1 is a high energy system that relies on winning the second ball and quick vertical movements. This formation is best suited for games where the opponent tries to build play slowly from the back.
