The midfield functions as a core engine to connect the defense to the attack. Hakan Calhanoglu acts as a deep lying playmaker to shield the defense and recycle possession. Nicolo Barella works to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win it back high up the pitch. Piotr Zielinski plays as an attacking ten to find the feet of the strikers and play through the lines. Federico Dimarco and Ratiu provide the width, acting as wide midfielders who can push up and overlap the attack to stretch the defence.

In the attacking phase, the team uses a partnership of two forwards consisting of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. Lautaro Martinez often drops deep to link up play, while Marcus Thuram makes runs in behind to exploit space. They combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position and create openings for others. The duo also presses from the front to force a long ball and win the second ball. This movement allows midfielders to arrive late into the box and offer extra options.
