Sweden National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
ETHAN · JAMA (c) · VIAN · ZANE · DEI · DAYYAAN · VORTEX · TROY · JULIAN · UMAR · TEZSweden seeks to stay compact and hit the opponent on the break using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defense during transitions.
TEZ protects the goal as the goalkeeper to manage the defensive line. The team uses a back five that can move into a narrow defensive block when the ball is lost. ETHAN plays as the central defender to win the header and cover the space behind his partners. JULIAN and DAYYAAN act as the wide centre-backs to provide cover for the flanks. VORTEX and VIAN function as attacking wing backs who push high to provide width and overlap the midfielders.
The midfield consists of a three-man midfield where JAMA (c), who is the captain, operates as a central midfielder to shield the defense and win the second ball. TROY plays as the other central midfielder to connect the defensive line to the attackers and recycle possession. UMAR plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to operate in the half-spaces and find space. This group works together to squeeze the space in the center of the pitch.
The Swedish side uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. DEI works as a left striker to hold up the ball and link play with the midfield. ZANE plays as the right striker and looks to make runs in behind the opposition back line. The team builds play by using VORTEX and VIAN to spread wide and get to the byline. These wing backs look to whip it in toward the strikers or cut it back to an arriving player.
This formation offers great compactness when defending in a low block. The five players in the back line make it very hard for the opponent to play through the lines. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads. When VORTEX and VIAN push forward, they create situations where they can isolate wide players in one on one battles.
This 5-3-2 formation is perfect for Sweden to defend in a low block and counter at pace. It is most effective when facing opponents that dominate possession and need a disciplined unit to stop them.
