Venezia Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Stankovic · Franjic · Lella · Aurelio · Hainaut · Perez · Yeboah · Farji · Compagnon · El Shaarawy · BasicVenezia operates with a direct style of play through a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to stay compact and win the ball to strike quickly in transition. The team uses this formation to defend in a mid-block before hitting the opposition in behind.
Stankovic guards the goal for Venezia. The back four consists of Hainaut and Aurelio on the flanks with Lella and Franjic in the center. Hainaut and Aurelio work to cover the wide areas while Lella and Franjic stay central to hold the line. These defenders must stay close together to prevent passes through the middle and ensure they do not get caught out when the team pushes up. They often defend zonally to maintain a solid block and protect the penalty area.
The midfield features a central pairing of Basic and Perez who sit in front of the defense. Basic and Perez work to shield the back four and win the second ball whenever possession is lost. El Shaarawy and Compagnon occupy the wide roles to provide width and support the central pair. El Shaarawy uses his dribbling to move the ball up the pitch while Compagnon provides support. El Shaarawy and Compagnon must track back to help the full backs when defending deep. This unit links the defense to the attack by recycling possession or playing direct to the forwards.
In the final third, the team uses a two-man strike partnership with Farji and Yeboah. Farji and Yeboah look to work together to pin the last defender and create space for each other. They often look to run in behind the defense or hold up the ball to let the midfield join the play. Compagnon and El Shaarawy can pull wide to stretch the defense and deliver crosses into the box. The attack relies on quick combinations and getting the ball to the forwards in transition to catch the opposition off guard.
This formation offers significant compactness when defending in a mid-block. The proximity of the four midfielders to the two strikers makes it hard for opponents to play through the lines. Another advantage is the speed of transition once Basic or Perez wins the ball. This allows Farji and Yeboah to immediately attack the space behind the opposition defense and exploit any gaps.
The 4-4-2 formation provides a reliable way to remain hard to beat while staying dangerous on the break. This lineup is best suited for facing teams that play a high line and leave large spaces in behind.
