Milan Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Pulisic (ANY) · Jashari (Ricci) · Rabiot (Fofana) · Saelemakers (Athekame) · Grimaldo (Bartesaghi) · Pavlovic (Tiago Gabriel) · Maignan (Torriani) · Gabbia (De Winter) · Gila (Tomori) · Vlahovic (Camarda) · Nkunku (ANY)Milan focuses on a high press and rapid transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opponent can settle. The intent is to pin the opposition back through aggressive movement and constant pressure on the ball.
Maignan starts between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back three consists of Gila as the right center back, Gabbia in the middle, and Pavlovic on the left. Gila and Pavlovic act as wide center backs to cover the flanks when the wide players push forward. Gabbia holds the line and stays central to stop any central penetration. This unit works together to play out from the back and maintain a high line to keep the team compact.
The midfield relies on a central pairing of Rabiot and Jashari to control the center of the pitch. Rabiot provides a presence to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Jashari works to carry the ball forward and connect the back line to the attack. On the flanks, Grimaldo and Saelemakers act as wide midfielders. Grimaldo can push up to provide width, while Saelemakers works to balance the midfield and track back to help the defenders.
Up front, Vlahovic acts as the lone striker to lead the line. He is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support. Nkunku operates as an inverted winger on the right, often cutting inside to find space in the half spaces. Pulisic plays on the left as an inverted winger, looking to drive at the defense and whip it in or shoot. This front three presses the opposition back line to force turnovers.
One major advantage for Milan is the ability to create wide overloads when Grimaldo and Saelemakers push up to support the wingers. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when Nkunku and Pulisic break quickly into space. By using a three man defense, the team remains solid even when the wide midfielders are caught high up the pitch.
This 3-4-3 formation is a high intensity setup designed to overwhelm opponents through pressure and speed. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from a high press.
