Starting Lineup

TEZ · JAMA (c) · MIEKY · ZAID · ETHAN · DAYYAAN · VORTEX · TROY · JULIAN · UMAR · ZANE

Sweden relies on defensive solidity and quick transitions, employing a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and strike quickly when opponents leave space behind. By staying compact, the team makes it difficult for the opposition to find gaps in the middle of the pitch. The focus is on staying hard to beat and using the width of the pitch once the ball is won.

ZANE stays in goal to manage the defensive line and command his area. The defensive unit operates in a back five with TEZ acting as the central anchor to win headers and clear the lines. JULIAN and DAYYAAN play as the wider centre-backs to provide cover and step up to intercept passes. VORTEX and MIEKY act as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width and whip it in when the team has the ball. This defensive block allows the team to defend zonally and protect the central zones.

The midfield is a three-man unit designed to connect the defence to the attack. JAMA (c) plays in the right central midfield role to shield the defence and help recycle possession. TROY works on the left side to help the team press in a mid-block and win the second ball. UMAR plays as an advanced ten behind the strikers to find the feet of the forwards or play through the lines. JAMA (c) works to carry the ball forward and ensures the team can transition quickly.

In the final third, Sweden uses a partnership of two forwards to stretch the defence. ETHAN and ZAID work in combination, with one often looking to hold up the ball while the other makes runs in behind. They aim to pin the last defender to create space for UMAR to arrive late into the box. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball, which the defensive unit can then collect. This movement allows for quick strikes on the transition.

One major advantage for Sweden is the compactness when defending in a low block. The proximity of the players makes it very hard for the opposition to play through the middle. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads using VORTEX and MIEKY. When the team moves forward, these wing backs push high to overlap the players in the final third, providing plenty of service from wide areas.

The 5-3-2 formation provides a very stable foundation for teams that want to play on the break. It is most effective against teams that play a high line and leave significant space behind their defenders.
