Starting Lineup

ZANE · JAMA (c) · MIEKY · ZAID · DEI · DAYYAAN · VORTEX · TROY · JULIAN · UMAR · TEZ

Sweden aims to play a direct and high tempo style of football using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opponent in the final third and create immediate pressure through high numbers. The main goal is to win it back high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle into a defensive block.

TEZ operates in goal to lead the defensive unit. The team employs a flat back four where VORTEX plays at right back and MIEKY plays at left back. JULIAN and DAYYAAN act as the two central defenders who must hold a high line to squeeze the space. VORTEX and MIEKY are expected to push up the pitch to support the wingers, while JULIAN and DAYYAAN stay central to cover the middle and win the second ball. The back four must stay coordinated to prevent being split by through balls.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the central area. JAMA, the captain, plays in the right central midfield role to shield the defense and recycle possession. TROY operates on the left of the pivot and works to carry the ball forward to link the lines. Together, JAMA and TROY must protect the space between the midfield and the defense to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines. They are the engine that moves the ball from the back four to the front four.

The attacking unit is very aggressive with four players positioned across the front. DEI and ZAID play as wide attackers, with DEI on the left and ZAID on the right, to stretch the defence. UMAR and ZANE act as two central forwards who work in tandem to attack the box. The wingers look to get to the byline and deliver crosses, or cut inside to create chances. These attackers press from the front to force a long ball and create chances for the team to win it back high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when VORTEX and MIEKY overlap the wingers. By pushing the wingers high, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations. Additionally, the presence of UMAR and ZANE provides a constant threat in the air and on the ground, allowing the team to go direct when under pressure. This high level of numbers in the attacking third makes the team very dangerous during a quick break.

This 4-2-4 formation is a vertical lineup designed to punish opponents through offensive dominance. It is best suited for games where Sweden can use their pace to hit in behind on the transition.
