NorthEast United Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Kartik (ST) · Shoeav (AMF) · Koustav (DMF) · Roki (AMF) · Ningtam (RW) · Poireton (LW) · Sami (CB) · Rishiraj (LB) · Koushik (RB) · Rajveer (CB) · Abhishek (GK)NorthEast United aims to dominate through high pressing and quick transitions using a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup focuses on squeezing the pitch to win the ball high up the pitch and attacking with pace. The goal is to use wide players to stretch the defence and create central openings for the attackers.
Abhishek starts between the posts to organize the defensive line. A flat back four provides the base for NorthEast United. Koushik operates as a full back on the right, while Rishiraj holds the left side. In the middle, Sami and Rajveer act as the central defenders to hold the line and defend zonally. They must be ready to step up to set the offside trap or drop back to cover runs in behind.
The midfield works in a three-man unit to control the center of the pitch. Koustav plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Beside him, Shoeav and Roki act as inverted eights to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Shoeav works to press aggressively to win the ball high, while Roki looks to carry the ball forward and play through the lines to find the front three.
Up front, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Poireton plays as a wide winger on the left, while Ningtam stays wide on the right to provide width. Kartik operates as a pressing centre-forward to lead the line. The attackers aim to combine in tight spaces or hit in behind on the transition, looking to deliver early crosses or cut it back for late runners.
This formation offers several tactical advantages. The team can create wide overloads when Koushik or Rishiraj overlap the winger to force the opposition out of position. There is also a strong ability to press high in coordinated waves with the front three and the midfield trio working together. This setup allows NorthEast United to stay compact when defending in a mid-block.
The 4-3-3 lineup relies on intense pressing and rapid ball movement to break down opponents. This system is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and struggle with quick verticality.
