Nemati is strong in the air and looks to win the header, while Shalilazadeh works to cover the space behind him. The midfield works as a double pivot to provide a shield for the back four. Ezatolahi acts as the deep-lying anchor who stays close to the defenders to win the second ball and intercept passes. Next to him, Ghoddos acts as the carrier who can drive forward with the ball to link the lines. This pair must work hard to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through them. When possession is regained, they look to quickly find the attackers to start a break.

In the attacking third, the team uses four players to pin the opposition defense. Taremi and Moghanlou operate as a two-man striking partnership in the center. Taremi is known for his ability to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates, while Moghanlou looks to run in behind the defenders. Yousefi and Mohebi act as wide wingers who stay high and wide to stretch the defense. This movement creates space in the middle and allows the team to hit in behind on the transition or deliver crosses from the wide areas.

One major strength of this Iran formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the box during attacks.
