Piast Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Plach (+) (Holec, Marcel) · Twumasi (Borowski) · Juande (Pitan) · Drapiński (Czerwiński) · Lewicki (Fikaj) · Leśniak (Maziarz) · Łabojko (Lubowiecki) · Boisgard (Felix / Niedbała) · Lokilo (Sanca / Mucha) · Vallejo (Lima) · Katsantonis (Dalmau / Kucharski)Piast looks to play a game built on defensive solidity and compact organization. This 4-5-1 formation focuses on squeezing the space between the lines and making it difficult for the opposition to play through the center. The team aims to sit deep and wait for the right moment to strike on the transition.
Plach guards the goal and oversees the defensive line. The back four consists of Twumasi at right back and Lewicki at left back, while Drapiński and Juande operate as the central pair. Twumasi and Lewicki must stay disciplined to avoid leaving gaps behind, while Drapiński and Juande focus on winning the second ball and marking the opposition strikers. The defensive unit works to maintain a narrow block to deny central lanes.
The midfield is a dense five man unit designed to control the center of the pitch. Leśniak and Łabojko act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win possession. Ahead of them, Lokilo, Boisgard, and Vallejo occupy the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Lokilo and Vallejo work to recycle possession, while Boisgard can drive forward with the ball to link the midfield to the attack. This group aims to congest the middle to force the opponent wide.
Katsantonis operates as a lone striker at the top of the formation. His role is to hold up the ball and provide a focal point for the team when they win it back. He must press the opposition back line to disrupt their build up play and create space for the midfielders to push up. The attack relies on Katsantonis making runs in behind or playing with the midfielders to move the ball quickly toward the goal.
One major advantage for Piast is the compactness when defending in a mid block. The five midfielders and four defenders create a wall that is very hard to pass through. Another strength is the ability to use the midfield density to win the second ball and launch quick counters. By keeping the lines close together, the team makes it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a very disciplined defensive identity. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession where Piast can sit deep and counter at pace.
