Piast focuses on a compact and defensive identity through a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to stay solid in a mid-block and hit teams on the break. The team looks to stay hard to beat by keeping the lines close together and limiting the space in the middle of the pitch. This way of playing focuses on being difficult to break down and relying on quick transitions once the ball is won back.

Gril stays between the posts to command the area and organize the defenders. The back four operates in a flat line with Twumasi as the right back and Lewicki on the left. Drapiński and Juande act as the two central defenders who focus on defending zonally. Twumasi and Lewicki act as defensive wing backs who must track back to cover the wide areas and prevent crosses when the opposition pushes high. Drapiński and Juande focus on winning headers and clearing the lines during heavy pressure. The unit works together to maintain a narrow defensive block that is hard to penetrate.

The midfield functions as a five man unit to dominate the central areas. Leśniak and Łabojko sit as a double pivot to shield the defence. Their main job is to intercept passes and win the second ball to restart the attack. Lokilo, Boisgard, and Vallejo play ahead of them to connect the lines. Lokilo and Vallejo occupy the half spaces and look to play through the lines to find the forwards. Boisgard acts as a central carrier who can drive the ball forward into the final third. This group works to squeeze the space and force the opposition to play wide.

Katsantonis works as a pressing centre-forward at the top of the formation. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to move up the pitch. The attack relies on the wide midfielders to pull wide and stretch the defence. When Piast wins possession, Lokilo and Vallejo try to split the defence with a through ball to Katsantonis. The front line must press from the front to force a long ball. This formation creates chances for quick combinations and runs in behind the opposition back line.

A major advantage for Piast is the numerical superiority in the central midfield. Having five players in the middle allows the team to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opponents. This makes it very difficult for opposition playmakers to find space. Another strength is the speed of transition. Once the ball is recovered, the team can switch play and use the width provided by the midfielders to catch the opposition out of position.

This 4-5-1 formation is built to be a compact and resilient unit. It is best suited for matches against teams that hold high possession where Piast can sit deep and counter at pace.
