Czechia National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
Kovar · Holes · Hranac · Krejci · Sadilek · Cerv · Coufal · Darida · Sojka · Schick · HlozekCzechia aims to play a physical and vertical style of football through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the central areas of the pitch and use strength to win the second ball. By crowding the middle, the team intends to control the tempo and transition quickly from defense to attack.
Kovar operates as the goalkeeper to command the penalty area. The defensive unit sits in a narrow back three where Hranac acts centrally to win headers and hold the line. To his sides, Holes and Krejci act as wide centre-backs to cover the space behind the midfield. Hranac acts as the main anchor to protect the zone, while Holes and Krejci step up to intercept passes or track back if the opposition breaks quickly. This back three provides a solid base to deny the turn to any striker.
The midfield functions as a five player block to control the center. Cerv and Sadilek form a double pivot to shield the defence and break the lines of the opposition. Ahead of them, Sojka, Darida, and Coufal operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Darida and Coufal often carry the ball forward to push the team into the final third, while Sojka works to recycle possession and switch play to the flanks. This formation allows the midfield to press in a mid-block and win it back high up the pitch through coordinated movement.
Two attackers lead the line to provide the main goal threat. Schick and Hlozek work as a partnership to pin the last defender and stretch the defence. Schick uses his aerial strength and movement to find space in the box, while Hlozek looks to make runs in behind to exploit a high line. The team attacks by playing short from the back to progress through the thirds or by using quick transitions to hit in behind on the transition. Schick often looks to hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box or to find Hlozek in better positions.
Significant tactical advantages include numerical superiority in midfield which allows the team to squeeze the space and dominate possession. By having five players in the middle, Czechia can press in pairs to force a long ball from the opponent. Furthermore, the ability to shift from a mid-block into a high press provides a way to win the ball high up the pitch and catch the opposition out of position.
This 3-5-2 formation provides a sturdy and physical identity for the team. It is best suited for matches against opponents that rely on central play, as the midfield can easily block the passing lanes.
