Starting Lineup

Viña · Rivero · Martínez Quarta · Montiel · Driussi · Colidio · Salas · Quintero · Castaño · Moreno · Beltrán

River looks to dominate through a heavy high press and rapid verticality in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to squeeze the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents in transition. The goal is to keep the play moving forward quickly to catch the opposition before they can organize.

Beltrán operates between the posts to manage the space behind the back line. The defensive unit relies on a narrow two man central pairing of Rivero and Martínez Quarta. These two central defenders must play a high line and be ready to sweep behind the defense when the team wins the ball back. They need to be comfortable playing out from the back to start attacks immediately.

A five man midfield provides the engine for the River system. Montiel and Viña act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Castaño and Moreno operate in the half spaces to connect the defense to the attack. Quintero plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, using his passing range to find teammates. This midfield group can easily compress the midfield when the opposition tries to build out.

The attacking trio uses width and central movement to pull the defense apart. Colidio and Salas act as wide wingers who cut inside to create space for others. Driussi serves as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. The team looks to combine in tight spaces to find ways to split the defense with a through ball.

The formation offers significant numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By using five players in the center, River can easily win the second ball and control the tempo. The ability to press high in coordinated waves forces many mistakes in the opposition defensive third. This setup also allows for quick width when the wingers pull wide to stretch the defense.

River utilizes an aggressive high press to dominate games and control possession in advanced areas. This formation is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
