Morocco National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
hakimi · issa · chadi riad · lhaj mezraoui · bono · bouadi · el enaoui · ounahi · brahim (diaz) · sibari · el khanoussMorocco focuses on high intensity and verticality within a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. The intention is to use a heavy front line to push the opponents back and create chaos in their defensive third.
Bono operates between the posts to command the area and sweep behind the back line. The defensive unit consists of a central pair with issa and chadi riad acting as the main blockers. These two must be dominant in the air and quick to cover the space behind them when the team pushes forward. Because the formation lacks full backs, the central defenders must be ready to defend much of the width when the midfield is bypassed.
The midfield works as a four man block to control the center of the pitch. Hakimi sits in the defensive midfield role to shield the two central defenders and pick up runners. Lhaj Mezraoui and el enaoui operate as the two central midfielders, with el enaoui looking to carry the ball forward through the lines. Bouadi acts as a carrier to connect the defense to the attack. This unit must stay compact to ensure there is no gap between the back line and the forwards.
The attacking line is extremely aggressive with four players pushing against the opposition defense. Ounahi and sibari act as a partnership in the center, with sibari looking to hold up the ball while ounahi makes runs in behind. On the flanks, el khanouss acts as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create, while brahim occupies the right wing to stretch the defense. This front four is designed to press from the front and force a long ball from the opponents.
Morocco benefits from a massive amount of pressure in the final third. The presence of four attackers allows the team to press in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. Another strength is the ability to hit in behind on the transition because of the speed of the front four.
This formation is designed for a high pressing game that relies on overwhelming the opponent in their own half. It is best suited for matches where Morocco can dominate territory and use their attacking numbers to pin the opposition back.
