Starting Lineup

Senegal look to play a direct and aggressive brand of football by utilizing a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to pin the opposition back and exploit spaces quickly through a heavy front four. By pushing the attackers high, the team aims to stretch the defence and create chances through rapid transitions.

Diaw stays on his line to protect the goal. The defensive unit functions as a zonal line consisting of Diatta at right back and Diouf at left back. Koulibaly serves as a dominant presence in the air at right centre back, while Niakhaté provides cover to sweep behind a high line. Often, the full backs push up to support the wingers, which requires the two central defenders to stay compact and defend the space behind them.

In the center of the pitch, a double pivot of I. Gueye and P. Gueye works to control the middle. I. Gueye plays to intercept passes and win the second ball to trigger a press. P. Gueye helps to recycle possession and connect the defensive unit with the attack. These two must stay disciplined to shield the defence and prevent opponents from playing through the lines, especially when the full backs have pushed up.

The attacking front line uses Mané on the left and Sarr on the right to provide width and goal threat. Mané uses his dribbling and pace to cut inside and attack the near post, while Sarr looks to spread wide. Up front, Jackson and Camara work as a partnership. Jackson uses his pace and movement to hit in behind the defence, while Camara works to hold up the ball and lay it off for teammates. The entire front four press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

Significant tactical advantages include the ability to hit in behind on the transition using the speed of Jackson and Mané. Senegal also create wide overloads when Diatta and Diouf overlap the wingers, forcing the opposition to defend in much larger areas. This creates many chances for cutbacks or crosses into the box.
