Inter focuses on a direct and vertical style of play through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball back quickly and hit teams in transition with speed. The goal for Inter is to use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition while keeping a solid base to prevent counter attacks.

Sulfer operates between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back five consists of a central defender and two wide centre backs, with NK playing as the right wing back. NK is expected to push high up the pitch to provide width, while the other defenders must hold a compact line to cover the space left behind. The central defenders work to win the second ball and clear the lines when under pressure. The unit functions by dropping into a low block when needed or stepping up to squeeze the space.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. TheLast works in the right central midfield role to connect the defence and the attack. This duo must work to protect the back five and ensure they do not get outnumbered in the middle. One player will often drop between the centre backs to receive the ball and play short from the back, while the other looks to carry the ball forward. They must also track back quickly to help the wing backs if the team loses possession.

The attack utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender and create chaos. A lone striker leads the line to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball. On the flanks, the left winger and right winger act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create space for the wing backs to overlap. This creates a situation where the forwards can combine in tight spaces or pull wide to isolate a one on one wide. The front three also work to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to provide wide overloads from the wing backs. By using NK and the left wing back in high positions, Inter can overwhelm the flanks. The team also gains compactness when defending, as the five defenders and two midfielders create a difficult block to break through. This setup allows for a very fast transition once the ball is recovered in the middle third.

Inter utilizes a defensive base that transitions into a wide and aggressive attacking front. This 5-2-3 is best suited for matches against teams that play with high defensive lines and can be caught on the break.
