(?)Inter focuses on a heavy defensive presence and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to defend in numbers before catching opponents on the break. The team looks to win the ball deep and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition once they regain possession.
Sulfer sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back five consists of a central trio where Poxmelator acts as the main anchor to defend the central zone. Arbi plays as the left centre back to cover the space behind the wing back, while the right centre back provides physical presence in the box. NK operates as the right wing back to provide width and track back when needed, while Amongus plays as the left wing back to push high up the pitch. This unit works to hold a compact shape and squeeze the space in the final third.
The midfield relies on a two man engine room to control the center of the pitch. Undertaker and TheLast form a double pivot that works to shield the back five and recycle possession. Undertaker is tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high, while TheLast sits slightly deeper to protect the central area and connect the defense to the attack. They must work together to pick up runners and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.
In the attacking third, Inter uses three players to pin the opposition back. Rekro acts as the lone striker and works to hold up the ball and win the second ball for his teammates. Xvv operates from the left as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances, while the right winger stays wide to provide a cross on the run. The attacking unit aims to create runs in behind and use the space left by advancing defenders to hit in behind on the transition.
A primary advantage for Inter is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs join the attack. The formation also offers great compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps in the central zone. This setup allows the team to shift quickly between a low block and a direct attacking movement.
This 5-2-3 formation is designed for teams that want to be hard to beat and lethal on the counter. It is best suited for matches against high pressing opponents where Inter can exploit the space behind the defensive line.
