Starting Lineup

Baroka aims to play a heavy counter attacking game using a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and wait for the opposition to push up before hitting them in behind. The focus is on defensive compactness and winning the ball to spark quick transitions.

Saibari plays in goal to command the area during defensive phases. The back line functions as a flat back four with Oulai and Bouaddi acting as the central defenders. Oulai acts as a ball playing defender to start moves, while Bouaddi stays deeper to cover. Diomandé and Ndiaye form the wide defensive unit, with Diomandé looking to stay more conservative while Ndiaye pushes up to support the midfield. The whole unit works to squeeze the space between the lines.

Aynoui sits in a single pivot role to shield the defence and pick up runners. In front of him, the midfield is busy with Doue and Mensah acting as two central midfielders who drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Diop plays as an attacking ten in the left half space, while Borges operates as a wide midfielder on the right. This three man midfield with a carrier helps Baroka recycle possession when needed. They work together to press in a mid block and deny the turn of the opponent.

The attack relies on a lone striker, Vozinha, who acts as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the opposition. Vozinha works to hold up the ball and link up play with the players behind him. Diop and Borges provide the width and central presence by cutting inside to create numbers in the box. The team looks to attack in combinations in transition, with the wide players making runs in behind to support Vozinha.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to maintain compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. Baroka also benefits from the speed of transition when the midfield wins the ball. By using the wide midfielders to stretch the defence, they create space for the central players to arrive late into the box.
