Congo focuses on a direct and counter attacking style of play. They operate in a 4-4-2 formation.

Mpasi stays between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit holds a flat back four to maintain compactness. Wan-Bissaka acts as a defensive wing back who stays tight to his man and uses his recovery pace to stop runners. Masuaku serves as an attacking full back to provide width on the left side. In the center, Mbemba and Tuanzebe form the heart of the defense, with Mbemba using his aerial strength to win headers and Tuanzebe to cover the space behind the high line.

The midfield works in two lines to control the center of the pitch. Moutoussamy and Sadiki form a double pivot that sits in front of the back four to shield the defence. While Moutoussamy intercepts passes, Sadiki looks to recycle possession and move the ball to the wings. On the flanks, Mbuku and Cipenga stay wide to stretch the opposition defense. Mbuku looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces, while Cipenga tracks back to help the full backs when the team loses the ball.

Congo utilizes a two-man strike force to lead the attack. Wissa and Bakambu play as a partnership in the final third. Wissa runs in behind the defensive line to create chances, while Bakambu acts as a pressing centre-forward to force mistakes from the opposition center backs. The duo often combines to hold up the ball and lay it off to oncoming runners. Providing quick service from the wide areas allows the strikers to work in one on one situations.

The 4-4-2 offers significant advantages in transition. The speed of Wan-Bissaka and the movement of the two strikers allow Congo to break quickly once the ball is won. Maintaining a compact shape in a mid-block helps to deny the turn of opposition midfielders. By using Mbuku and Cipenga to pin the wide defenders, the central players gain more room to operate.

Congo relies on a sturdy defensive block and lightning fast counters to win games. This formation is best suited for facing teams that push high up the pitch and leave space behind their back line.
