Galatasaray plays with a heavy focus on high pressing and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win it back high up the pitch and hit in behind on the transition. Uğurcan Çakır guards the goal and organizes the back line. The defensive unit operates as a back three with Eduardo C acting as the central ball playing defender. Virgil van Dijk sits as the right centre back where his aerial strength and passing range help him win the header and play short from the back. Abdülkerim Bardakcı occupies the left side of the three to provide cover. Ferdi Kadıoğlu and Wilfred S act as attacking wing backs who push high to provide width. They can drop back to form a narrow defensive block or step up to squeeze the space when the team defends.

The midfield works as a double pivot with Khephren Thuram and Leroy Sané in the center. Leroy Sané uses his dribbling to carry the ball forward and progress through the thirds. Khephren Thuram sits deeper to shield the defence and win the second ball. This pairing connects the defensive unit to the attack by being able to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines. They work to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing between the lines.

Up front, the team uses three attackers. CanU acts as a pressing centre-forward who works to hold up the ball and link up play between the lines. Yan D and Victor Osimhen play as wide wingers who look to cut inside. Victor Osimhen uses his pace to run in behind. The wing backs, Ferdi Kadıoğlu and Wilfred S, often overlap the wingers to deliver crosses into the box. This creates many combinations in the final third and allows the team to stretch the defence.

This 5-2-3 formation provides significant tactical advantages. The team can create wide overloads through the movement of the wing backs and wingers. Having three central defenders allows Galatasaray to stay compact when defending and defend zonally against direct attacks. Additionally, the ability to press in pairs from the front makes it hard for opponents to play out from the back.
