The attack is incredibly heavy with four players staying high up the pitch. Doku and Trossard act as wide wingers who stretch the defense, with Doku using his dribbling style to beat defenders one on one. They are supported by a dual center forward pairing of De Bruyne and Lukaku. Lukaku acts as a target man to hold up the ball, while De Bruyne operates as a second striker in the hole to find pockets of space. This combination allows Belgium to attack in waves, using overlaps from the wide midfielders to create cutbacks from the byline.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in the attacking third, making it very difficult for a back four to track all runners. The ability to press high in coordinated waves allows Belgium to win the ball back high up the pitch. By pinning the last defender with Lukaku, the team creates massive amounts of space for the creative players to arrive late into the box.
