Kylian Mbappé leads the line as a lone striker. He uses his explosive pace to make runs in behind the opposition defence and can drop deep to link up play with the advancing midfielders. The attacking movement relies on the wide midfielders pulling wide to stretch the defence, allowing Mbappé to find space centrally. When Real Madrid wins the ball, the team looks to move it quickly to the forwards to exploit gaps in a retreating back line.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press in coordinated waves. With five midfielders and a striker, the team can squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opponent.
