Celtic Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Slomina (gk) · Laird · Tierney · trusty · Pau Navarro · Engels · Mcgregor (c) · Reo Hatate · Nygren · Jota · AmouryCeltic plays with a high press and a focus on controlling the ball through a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the center of the pitch and use wide areas to stretch the defence. The team looks to play through the lines with quick passing while maintaining a high line to squeeze the space.
Amoury stays between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit consists of a back four with Jota at right back and Nygren at left back. Both Jota and Nygren will push up to support the attack. In the middle, the captain Mcgregor acts as a ball playing defender to play out from the back. Reo Hatate plays alongside him to cover the space and win the second ball. This unit works to hold the line and keep the opposition pinned back.
The midfield works in a five man block to control the center. Engels sits as a single pivot to shield the defence and collect the ball from the centre backs. To his sides, Pau Navarro and trusty occupy the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Tierney and Laird provide the width from the flanks, with Tierney on the left and Laird on the right. This group can press in a mid-block or trigger a press when the ball enters their zone.
Slomina operates as a lone striker to lead the attack. He must hold up the ball and find the feet of the midfielders to link up play. Tierney and Laird will often cut inside or overlap to create chances in the final third. The goal is to use the wide players to stretch the defence before they deliver a cross or cut it back to Slomina. The team attacks in combinations to create runs in behind the opposition back line.
Celtic finds success through numerical superiority in the midfield. By placing five players in the center, they can easily win the second ball and recycle possession. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front line and midfield to force a long ball from the opponent. This makes it difficult for teams to play short from the back or find passing lanes through the middle.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a balance of defensive solidity and central control. It is best suited for games where the team needs to dominate possession against a side that sits deep in a low block.
