Blanco operates as the left back to provide width when needed. In the center, L. Di Lollo and A. Costa act as the central defenders, with L. Di Lollo looking to win headers and A. Costa covering the space behind him. They work to shift together to close down passing lanes and protect the box.

The midfield acts as a five man unit designed to control the center. S. Ascacíbar plays as a single pivot to shield the defense and intercept play. Next to him, L. Paredes helps to recycle possession and move the ball from deep. E. Zeballos and B. Rodríguez operate in the half spaces to link the midfield to the attack. P. Dybala plays in a more advanced central role, looking to find pockets of space and drive the ball forward. This group works to press in a mid-block and squeeze the space available to the opposition.
