Milan focuses on a direct and vertical style of play through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to attack quickly in transition and use high intensity to win the ball back high up the pitch. The goal is to move the ball forward with speed to catch the opposition before they can settle into a defensive block.

Mike Maignan operates between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit utilizes a back three consisting of Gila 25, Van Dijk, and Pavlovic. Van Dijk acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks from the back, while Pavlovic and Gila 25 provide cover and aerial strength. This trio functions as a zonal line that can push up to squeeze the space or drop into a low block when needed.

The midfield uses a wide central pairing to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Rabiot works to shield the defence and press aggressively to win the ball, while Modrić uses his passing range to create from deep and drive forward with the ball. Alexis and Araújo operate as wide midfielders, providing width and tracking back to support the defenders. These four players work together to control the center of the pitch and switch play to the flanks.

Milan utilizes three attackers to stretch the defence. Pulisic and Kang-in Lee Lee play as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. G. Ramos acts as the lone striker, looking to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball to allow others to join the attack. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and use combinations in tight spaces to break the line of the opposition defence.

This formation offers Milan significant tactical advantages. The wide midfielders allow for wide overloads when they push up to support the wingers. Having Modrić and Rabiot provides numerical superiority in midfield to dominate the middle third. Additionally, the presence of Van Dijk and Pavlovic ensures the team can defend zonally while remaining a threat on the transition.

This 3-4-3 lineup relies on high pressing and rapid attacking movements. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and can be punished by speed in behind.
