Starting Lineup

RABIOT (Ricci) · A. ATTA (Modrić/Jashari) · P. DORGU (Bartesaghi) · ALEXIS (Athekame) · C. PULISIC (Godts / Comotto) · GREENWOOD (Chukwueze) · G. RAMOS (N'Kunku / Camarda) · PAVLOVIC (Odogu) · GILA (Tomori) · DE WINTER (Gabbia) · MAIGNAN (Torriani)

Milan aims to dominate through a high press and verticality, utilizing a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and attack the opposition quickly. The team focuses on quick transitions to catch opponents out of position and keep the pressure on in all areas.

MAIGNAN acts as the goalkeeper, using his shot stopping and passing range to start attacks from the back. A back three consisting of DE WINTER, PAVLOVIC, and GILA forms the defensive foundation. PAVLOVIC provides physical strength and is dominant in the air, while GILA and DE WINTER maintain a high line to squeeze the space. The defensive unit works to intercept passes, cover for one another, and force a long ball from the opposition.

The midfield features RABIOT and A. ATTA in a central pairing. RABIOT is a tireless runner who covers ground to protect the back three, while A. ATTA works to carry the ball forward and break the line. P. DORGU and ALEXIS provide width as wide midfielders who push high to overlap the wingers and stretch the defence. This group connects the defence to the attack by recycling possession and playing through the lines to find the front three.

The attack uses three forwards with C. PULISIC, GREENWOOD, and G. RAMOS. C. PULISIC plays on the left and likes to cut inside to find shooting positions, using his dribbling to beat defenders. GREENWOOD operates on the right, looking to cut inside or whip it in to the striker. G. RAMOS plays as a pressing centre-forward, looking to hold up the ball and find space. The front line presses the opposition back line to prevent them from playing short from the back.

One major strength of this Milan lineup is the ability to create wide overloads. When P. DORGU and ALEXIS push high, they combine with the wingers to overwhelm the opposition flanks. The team also benefits from the ability to press in coordinated waves, which allows them to win the ball back high up the pitch. This lineup allows for great speed of transition when the ball is won, making them very dangerous on the break.

This 3-4-3 formation is ideal for an aggressive, high-pressing game. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play through the lines or defend against quick counters.
