SK Rapid Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Oswald · Raux Yao · Schöller · Bolla · Kara · Gulliksen · Wurmbrand · Dahl · Seidl · Amane · HedlSK Rapid plays a high risk brand of football through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to dominate the ball and push high up the pitch to win it back high up the pitch. The goal is to use heavy numbers in the middle and the final third to squeeze the space for the opposition.
Hedl sits in goal to manage the space behind the defensive line. The back line consists of a two man unit with Raux Yao and Schöller acting as the central defenders. These two must stay alert to cover wide areas as the midfield pushes up. They need to be capable of playing out from the back and winning the second ball when the high press is bypassed. Because there are only two defenders, they must stay compact to prevent being split by long balls.
The midfield is a heavy five man block designed to control the center of the pitch. Bolla and Oswald act as a double pivot to shield the defence and provide a base for the team. Amane and Seidl operate as two inverted eights who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Gulliksen plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. This group works to recycle possession and use short passing to move the ball through the thirds.
The attacking front three uses a wide presence to stretch the defence. Dahl and Wurmbrand play as wide wingers who stay high to provide width. Kara acts as the lone striker and is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the team wins the ball, Dahl and Wurmbrand look to cut inside or make runs in behind to create chances.
One major advantage for SK Rapid is the numerical superiority in midfield. By flooding the center with Gulliksen, Amane, Seidl, Bolla, and Oswald, they can easily control the tempo. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when the wingers and midfielders combine. This formation is also capable of pressing in waves to overwhelm the opponent.
SK Rapid relies on a heavy offensive lineup to dictate the game. This formation is best suited for games where the team wants to dominate possession against a side that sits deep.
