Milan seeks to control games through a high press and rapid transitions in a 3-4-3. This formation is built to play with aggression in the middle of the pitch while using wide players to stretch the defence. The tactical identity of Milan relies on winning the ball back high up the pitch to catch the opposition out of position.

MAIGNAN acts as the last line of defence, often acting as a sweeper to cover the space behind the back line. The back three consists of GILA as the right centre-back, PAVLOVIĆ at left centre-back, and VAN DIJK who provides immense aerial strength and composure when playing out from the back. These three defenders maintain a high line to squeeze the space, with VAN DIJK often stepping up to intercept passes or win the second ball. The unit functions to keep the team compact while ensuring there is enough cover to deal with any long balls played over the top.

The midfield functions as a central block intended to dominate the center of the pitch. RABIOT and S. RICCI operate in the middle, with RABIOT acting as the engine to drive forward with the ball while S. RICCI helps to shield the defence. On the flanks, ALEXIS and G. DOUE provide the width, acting as wide midfielders who can support the attack or track back to help the defenders. This group links the defensive unit to the front three by recycling possession and finding ways to play through the lines.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to pin the opposition defenders. G. RAMOS operates as a pressing centre-forward, leading the line and looking to find the feet of the striker in combination play. On the wings, PULISIC and ØDEGAARD provide a massive threat, with PULISIC looking to cut inside and ØDEGAARD using his passing range to create chances from the right. The attackers work together to press from the front, forcing mistakes and creating runs in behind or looking to get to the byline for a cross.

One major advantage of this Milan lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to trigger a press. The formation also allows for wide overloads when ALEXIS and G. DOUE push high to support the wingers. This creates numerical superiority in the attacking half, making it difficult for the opposition to defend the wide areas and the half-spaces simultaneously.

This 3-4-3 formation is a heavy pressing system designed to dominate possession and strike quickly. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back or those that leave large spaces behind their defensive line.
