OCHONGA (36) · ALVES (22) · MARTINEZ (15) · ARRIETA (2) · BORNIA (26) · MARZETTI (13) · OCHOA (16) · GALLO (7) · ALVAREZ (33) · SOSA (24) · LEGUIZAMON (8)Independiente relies on a hard working identity built to stifle opponents and win the ball back quickly in a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup focuses on staying compact and using a narrow block to deny space between the lines. The team looks to win second balls and transition rapidly once they regain control in the middle of the pitch.
OCHONGA sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line works as a flat back four where ALVES acts as an attacking full back on the right to provide width. On the left, BORNIA can push up to help the midfield. In the center, MARTINEZ and ARRIETA form the heart of the defense, with MARTINEZ acting as a ball playing defender while ARRIETA focuses on being dominant in the air and covering space behind his partner. The unit works together to hold a high line and squeeze the space when the ball is played deep.
The midfield operates as a five man block designed to congest the central areas. OCHOA and MARZETTI form a double pivot that shields the defense and sits in front of the back four. They work to intercept passes and recycle possession to the more advanced players. ALVAREZ, SOSA, and GALLO play as three central midfielders who connect the defensive and attacking lines. SOSA and GALLO press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch, while ALVAREZ drives forward with the ball to link the play. This midfield group works to compress the midfield and force the opponent to play wide.
Up front, LEGUIZAMON acts as a lone striker and a pressing centre-forward. His main role is to lead the press from the front and harass the opposition back line to force mistakes. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the attack. The team builds play by moving the ball through the lines to find LEGUIZAMON in tight spaces or using the wingers to spread wide. The goal is to create runs in behind or deliver crosses from the flanks to find the striker in the box.
Independiente gains a clear advantage through numerical superiority in midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The coordination of the five midfielders allows the team to press in a mid-block and quickly recover possession. This formation also allows for great compactness when defending deep, making it hard to break down.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a solid platform for a team that wants to control the center of the park. It is a lineup best suited for matches against dominant sides where the goal is to sit deep and hit on the transition.
