Jihlava Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Soukup · Haala · Strakl · Štětka · Hošek · Jambor · Lacko · Křivánek · Křehlík · Omotoye · ČermákJihlava relies on a high intensity, direct style of play using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third and score quickly through heavy pressure. By pushing many bodies forward, the team aims to force turnovers in the opponent half and exploit any gaps in the defensive line.
Soukup stays between the posts to manage the defense from deep. The back line consists of a narrow two man pairing with Strakl and Štětka acting as the central defenders. Strakl and Štětka must stay compact to cover the massive space behind them when the team pushes up. They act as a covering unit, often forced to defend large areas of the pitch one on one as the team plays with a very high defensive line.
The midfield operates as a four man block to control the center and the wide areas. Lacko and Jambor sit in the middle to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Jambor and Lacko act as the engine, trying to connect the back line to the heavy attacking force. On the flanks, Hošek and Haala occupy the wide positions to provide width and support the press. This midfield unit must work hard to track back and prevent being bypassed by quick transitions.
The attack is extremely heavy with four players pushing high up the pitch. Čermák and Omotoye act as a central partnership to hold up the ball and pin the opposition defenders. Křivánek and Křehlík occupy the wings as wide attackers, ready to cut inside or provide service to the center. This front line is designed to press the opposition back line constantly, making it difficult for the opponent to play out from the back. The goal is to create many chances through combinations and quick vertical passes.
A major advantage for Jihlava is the ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the attacking third. Having four players close to the goal makes it very difficult for the opposition to defend the box. The team also benefits from the speed of transition, as they can move the ball from the midfield to the four attackers in a single phase of play. This high volume of attackers can isolate defenders in one on one situations frequently.
This aggressive 2-4-4 formation is built for high scoring matches and heavy pressing. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a result against a side that struggles to defend deep.
