Pavlenka sits in goal to manage the defensive unit. The team uses a flat back four to defend the width of the pitch. Kenny plays as the right back to defend against wide runners and can move forward to support the play. Taylor operates on the left as a full back to cover the flank. Elustondo and Michailidis form the central defensive pair, with Elustondo acting as a ball playing defender while Michailidis uses his strength to win the header and cover the space behind. The whole unit must stay compact to prevent being bypassed in the middle.

The midfield functions as a double pivot consisting of Camara and Zafeiris. Camara works to shield the defense and win the second ball in the middle third. Zafeiris acts as the carrier who drives forward with the ball to link the defensive line to the forwards. Because there are only two players in the center, they must be ready to cover large areas of grass. They focus on recycling possession and playing short from the back to build the attack.

The attacking unit is very aggressive with four players stationed high up the pitch. Taison and Zivkovic occupy the wide positions, with Taison using his quick dribbling to cut inside and threaten the goal. Zivkovic provides the width to stretch the defense and deliver crosses. In the central roles, Konstantelias operates to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines using his creative dribbling. Mythou acts as a pressing center forward to force the opposition into mistakes. This lineup creates constant runs in behind and seeks to isolate wide players in one on one situations.

One major advantage of this lineup for PAOK is the numerical superiority in the final third. Having four attackers makes it very difficult for a back four to defend against every movement. The team can also use wide overloads when the full backs push up to join the attack. This ability to press high in coordinated waves allows the team to win the ball back quickly and strike before the opponent can organize.
