Starting Lineup

SK Rapid aims to dominate through a high press and rapid verticality using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition by squeezing the space in the middle and using a heavy attacking presence to force mistakes high up the pitch. The goal is to win the ball back quickly and move the play forward with intent to catch the opponent out of position.

Hedl starts between the posts to anchor the defensive unit. The back line consists of a two man central defence featuring Raux Yao and Schöller. These two centre backs must act as covering defenders who step up to intercept passes and manage the space behind the midfield. They operate in a high line to keep the team compact, requiring them to be dominant in the air and quick to recover when the ball is played behind them.

The midfield is a dense five man block designed to control the center of the pitch. J. Auer and Bolla form a double pivot to shield the two centre backs and protect the space in front of the defence. Seidl and Oswald operate as the central midfielders, providing the engine to carry the ball forward and connect the back line to the attack. Gulliksen plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and create chances. This group must press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch and ensure the midfield remains hard to bypass.

In the attacking third, the team employs three forwards to stretch the defence. Dahl and Y. Demir act as wide wingers, with Dahl on the left and Y. Demir on the right, looking to cut inside or spread wide to create width. Wurmbrand leads the line as a pressing centre forward, working to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for the oncoming midfielders. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wide players to isolate defenders in one on one situations.

One major tactical advantage for SK Rapid is the numerical superiority in the midfield, which allows them to dominate possession and control the tempo. The heavy presence of five players in the middle makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. Additionally, the formation allows for coordinated waves of pressure, where the front three and the attacking midfielders trigger a press together to force a long ball from the opposition.
