Starting Lineup

ALEXIS · RABIOT · S. RICCI · RAFA LEÁO · G. RAMOS · C. PULISIC · PAVLOVIĆ · DE WINTER · GILA · ARAÚJO · MAIGNAN

Milan prefers a high press and quick transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use verticality to hurt opponents before they can settle. The tactical identity relies on heavy pressure from the front and using the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition.

MAIGNAN operates as the last line of defense, often sweeping behind a high line to intercept long balls. In front of him, the back three consists of DE WINTER, GILA, and PAVLOVIĆ. The central defenders act as ball playing defenders to start attacks from the back. PAVLOVIĆ and GILA provide aerial strength, while DE WINTER covers the space behind when the team pushes up. This defensive unit aims to hold a high line and squeeze the space to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

The midfield operates as a four man block with two central players and two wide midfielders. RABIOT and S. RICCI act as the central pairing to control the middle of the pitch. RABIOT uses his physical presence to win the second ball and shield the defense, while S. RICCI seeks to progress through the thirds with his passing. ARAÚJO and ALEXIS provide the necessary width, acting as wide midfielders who can track back to help the defense or push up to support the attack. This unit connects the defense to the front three by recycling possession and breaking the line with forward passes.

Milan utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender. G. RAMOS acts as the lone striker, working to hold up the ball and provide a central presence. RAFA LEÁO and C. PULISIC play as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. RAFA LEÁO uses his dribbling style to beat markers on the flank, while C. PULISIC looks to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. The forwards press from the front in pairs to force a long ball from the opposition.

This formation offers the advantage of wide overloads when ARAÚJO and ALEXIS push high to support the wingers. Milan also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. The presence of three central defenders provides compactness when defending against counter attacks.

The 3-4-3 lineup is a high intensity system designed to dominate through pressing and quick transitions. It is best suited for matches where Milan can exploit space behind a high defensive line.
