Salford Football Formation
Starting Lineup
JS · Tyler · George · Evan · Ben 2 · Ben · Bruno · Bdon · Brad · Lux · EllisSalford relies on a heavy high press and rapid transitions through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition. The team looks to dominate the central areas while using the wingers to create constant pressure on the opponent back line.
JS sits between the lines as the goalkeeper to start the build up. The defensive unit operates as a back three with Tyler acting as the central defender to hold the line and organize the unit. George plays as the left centre back to cover the wide area, while Evan acts as the right centre back to provide stability. This back three focuses on defending zonally and making sure they stay compact when the opposition tries to play through the middle.
In the middle of the pitch, Salford employs a three man midfield with a carrier to control the tempo. Ben sits in the single pivot role to shield the defence and pick up runners. Bruno and Ben work as the two central midfielders to connect the defensive and attacking lines. They are tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high and move the play forward. This group works to win the second ball and ensure the team can quickly move from a defensive block into an attacking move.
The attack uses two forwards in a partnership to pin the last defender. Lux and Ellis act as a strike duo that works to press the opposition back line from the front. Lux often looks to hold up the ball, while Ellis looks to make runs in behind. Bdon and Brad act as wide midfielders who provide width, often pushing high to overlap the winger or deliver crosses into the box. This creates a system where the forwards can combine in tight spaces or exploit the channels when the ball is switched wide.
One major advantage for Salford is the ability to press high in coordinated waves using the front three and the midfield. The formation also provides numerical superiority in midfield when the wide players tuck in. This makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle without being outnumbered.
This 3-5-2 formation is built for a team that wants to dictate the tempo through central dominance and high intensity. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to play out from the back and leave space behind their midfield.
