Unión (SF) plays a defensively solid game using a 5-4-1 formation. The team aims to sit deep and deny space to the opposition. This lineup is built to play a low block game, making it difficult for the opponent to find passing lanes or space between the lines. The group focuses on staying compact and protecting the central zones at all costs.

ZANINETTI guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit uses a back five that can shift into a narrow defensive block. HERMAN acts as the central defender to win the header and clear the lines during periods of pressure. LOPEZ and MUÑOZ sit on either side of him to cover the space and sweep behind the line if the opposition plays a through ball. MARANI and GUARDIA act as attacking wing backs who provide width in possession but must track back to ensure the team maintains a compact defensive line when out of possession.

In the center of the pitch, a double pivot provides the necessary cover for the back five. CORONEL and LOPEZ work to shield the defense and intercept passes to prevent the opponent from progressing through the thirds. They are tasked to win the second ball and recycle possession when the ball is recovered. SUAREZ and ALMADA sit in front of them, playing as wide midfielders who can press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. They act as the bridge that connects the defensive block to the forward line.

The attack is built around a lone striker, GARCIA, who must work hard to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Because the team plays with a single forward, width must come from the wing backs. MARANI and GUARDIA are expected to overlap the midfielders to deliver crosses into the box. When the team wins the ball, the intention is to break quickly and hit in behind on the transition.

One major strength of this Unión (SF) lineup is the extreme compactness when defending. The distance between the defensive line and the midfield is minimal, which prevents the opposition from playing through the lines. Additionally, the formation allows for wide overloads when the wing backs push up, helping to stretch the defence during transitions. The double pivot also ensures that the central area remains secure even when the team is under pressure.

This formation is designed to absorb pressure and defend deep in a low block. It is most effective against teams that play with high possession and may leave space behind their defenders for quick counters.
