Abergel shields the defense and works to win the second ball, allowing Sanson to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive and attacking lines. These four players work to squeeze the space and prevent the opposition from playing through the center, often forcing the opponent to go direct or play wide into less dangerous areas.

The attacking unit utilizes two forwards, Diallo and Orakpo, to lead the line. The team builds play by using Louchet and Camara to spread wide and stretch the defense. This movement creates opportunities for Orakpo and Diallo to make runs in behind or for the wingers to whip it in toward the far post or find the feet of the striker.

A primary advantage for Nice is the ability to maintain compactness when defending in a mid-block. This makes it hard for opponents to find gaps in the middle or play through the lines. Additionally, the team can exploit speed of transition, using the quick passing of the midfield to find the two strikers as soon as the ball is won to hit in behind on the transition with great speed.
