Liverpool focuses on a high press and rapid verticality. This 5-3-2 formation allows the team to stay compact and strike quickly on the transition. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and exploit gaps in the opposition defense through direct passing.

COURTOIS guards the goal and stays alert to long balls. The defensive line forms a back five with STILLER acting as the central anchor. DIAS plays as the right center back to cover space and win headers, while PACHO sits on the left to defend zonally. KOUNDÉ operates as an attacking wing back on the right side to provide width. GRIMALDO works on the left to overlap and deliver crosses. This unit holds a compact formation when the team drops into a mid-block.

The midfield works as a three-man midfield with an attacking ten behind the striker to connect the defense to the attack. ZAÏRE-EMERY plays as a left central midfielder to press aggressively and win the ball back high. BARELLA acts as the right central midfielder to drive forward with the ball and recycle possession. GÜLER operates in the hole to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines. This midfield three works to squeeze the space between the lines and deny the turn to opposition players.

In the attacking phase, Liverpool uses two forwards in a partnership. TORRES acts as a striker who can hold up the ball and lay it off to teammates. ÁLVAREZ works alongside him to make runs in behind and attack the near post. The wing backs, KOUNDÉ and GRIMALDO, push high to stretch the defence and create wide overloads. This formation allows for quick combinations in tight spaces and fast breaks once the ball is won.

One major advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front two and the attacking ten work together to trigger a press that forces a long ball. Another strength is the width provided by the wing backs which creates isolation in one on one situations for the wide players. The team also shows great speed of transition when they move from a defensive block to an attacking position.

This 5-3-2 formation provides a strong defensive base while remaining dangerous on the counter. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their defense.
