Flamengo relies on a compact defensive identity to absorb pressure and strike on the break using a 5-4-1. This formation is built to play a low block and sit deep, inviting the opposition forward before hitting them in behind. The lineup focuses on defensive solidity and narrowing the space between the lines to make the team difficult to break down.

In goal, Pedro acts as the last line of defense. The back line functions as a back five with Jorginho acting as the left centre-back to cover space and Lucas Paquetá playing as the right centre-back. De Arrascaeta occupies the middle spot in this defensive unit, providing presence to win the second ball. On the flanks, Thiago Almada operates as the right wing back and Samuel Lino plays as the left wing back. They are tasked to track back and defend the wide areas when the team is out of possession, while also being ready to push up and provide width when the team wins the ball back.

The midfield operates in a flat four to protect the defensive unit. Léo Pereira and Léo Ortiz act as the central midfielders, tasked to shield the defence and win possession in the middle of the pitch. Alex Sandro plays on the left and Guilhermo Varela plays on the right to provide balance. These players must compress the midfield to deny the opponent time on the ball. Léo Ortiz and Léo Pereira work to connect the defensive and attacking lines by moving the ball quickly from the back five to the front.

Up front, Flamengo uses a lone striker in Augustin Rossi to lead the line. Rossi acts as a target man to hold up the ball and allow the midfielders to move forward. The attacking structure relies on the wing backs, Thiago Almada and Samuel Lino, to provide width and stretch the defence. When the team transitions, the wide players look to carry the ball forward to support Rossi, who must fight for possession to allow the team to build attacks in transition.

This formation offers significant advantages through its compactness when defending. By sitting in a low block, Flamengo makes it very hard for opponents to play through the lines. The team also benefits from the ability to counter at pace once the midfield wins the ball.
