Morocco National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
Jahidul · Sabbir · Billal (Shakib) · Sourov · Azim · Tamim (Faruk) · Titas (Shakib) · Shamim · Parvez · Shahariar (Nodon) · Yasin ArafatMorocco focuses on a direct and hardworking identity using a 4-4-2. This formation is built to play with vertical movement and strength in both banks of the pitch. The team looks to sit in a mid-block before they hit the opposition with quick movement in transition. This formation is designed to absorb pressure and then strike rapidly.
Jahidul stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defense works as a flat back four with Sourov at right back and Billal at left back. Azim and Sabbir occupy the center of the defense where they work to win the second ball and hold the line. Sourov and Billal act as traditional full backs to provide width when the team has the ball but they must track back to cover the wide areas. Azim and Sabbir focus on defending zonally to protect the central area and set the offside trap.
The midfield consists of a double pivot and two wide players. Tamim and Titas play as the central duo to shield the defense. Tamim often drops deep to receive the ball and recycle possession while Titas works to intercept passes and tackle in the middle. Shamim and Parvez operate in the wide areas as attacking midfielders. Shamim pushes forward into the half spaces to link the play, while Parvez carries the ball forward from the right side. This group connects the defensive unit to the forwards by playing through the lines.
Morocco utilizes two forwards in a partnership up front. Shahariar and Yasin Arafat lead the line to stretch the defense. Shahariar often works to hold up the ball, allowing the midfielders to move up the pitch. Yasin Arafat looks to make runs in behind the defenders to hit in behind on the transition. The attack is built through combination play where Shamim and Parvez supply crosses or through balls. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
One major strength is the compactness when defending in a mid-block. The two banks of four make it hard for opponents to play through the lines and they help the team hold a compact block. Another advantage is the ability to hit in behind on the transition using the speed of the two strikers. Morocco can also create wide overloads when Billal and Shamim push up together to cross.
The 4-4-2 provides a reliable way to maintain balance and control the central zones. This lineup is best suited for games against teams that try to dominate possession by forcing Morocco into a battle of physicality.
