Starting Lineup

Salford focuses on a heavy press and quick transitions using a 3-5-2. This formation is built to control the middle of the pitch and use the width of the ball to stretch the opposition. The lineup relies on heavy work rates to win the ball back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks.

George sits between the posts to oversee the defensive unit. The back line consists of a central defender, Benjamin, who acts as the anchor. He is flanked by Lux on the left and Evan on the right. These three work as a narrow defensive block to protect the middle. Lux and Evan must be ready to step up to intercept passes or drop back to cover space if the high press is bypassed. They stay compact to deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.

The midfield works to dominate the center of the park. Kian acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Beside him, Ben and Ellis (RCM) operate as inverted eights to link the lines. Ben drives forward with the ball to support the attack, while Ellis (RCM) helps to compress the midfield when the team defends. The wide players, Bdon and Mud, provide the necessary width. Bdon and Mud push high to act as wing backs, helping to spread the play and provide crosses.

The attacking front line uses two forwards in a partnership. Brad and Ellis (RS) work together to pin the last defender. Brad acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the hunt from the front. Ellis (RS) looks to make runs in behind the defensive line to exploit gaps. They combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position. When the ball moves wide to Bdon or Mud, the strikers move to attack the far post or occupy the central area to receive a delivery.

One major advantage for Salford is the numerical superiority in midfield. With five players in the middle, they can often outnumber the opponent and win the second ball. The team also benefits from wide overloads when the wing backs join the attackers. This creates many ways to attack, whether through through balls or quick transitions to the wide areas.
