Starting Lineup

Palestra · James · Colwill · W. Fofana · J. Pedro · Rogers · Palmer · Caicedo · E. Fernández · P. Neto · Sánchez

Chelsea looks to dominate the ball and win it back high up the pitch with a 2-5-3. This formation is built to control the middle of the park and squeeze the space in the opponent's half. The team looks to play through the lines to reach the final third quickly and maintain control.

Sánchez sits in goal to provide the base for the defense. In front of him, Colwill and W. Fofana operate as a central pair in a high line. Colwill is a ball playing defender who can play out from the back with accuracy. W. Fofana focuses on being dominant in the air and using his strength to clear the lines. Because the lineup uses only two central defenders, they must be ready to cover and shift quickly to deny the turn to attackers.

The midfield acts as the engine of the Chelsea lineup. It uses a combination of a double pivot and two attacking midfielders. Palestra and James act as the deep anchors to shield the defense and recycle possession. Caicedo and E. Fernández play as the connecting pieces, with Caicedo using his pressing intensity to win the ball high up the pitch. E. Fernández looks to carry the ball forward and switch play to the wings. Palmer operates as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space and combine in tight spaces.

The attack uses three players across the front line. J. Pedro acts as a central presence to hold up the ball and link play. On the wings, P. Neto and Rogers provide the width. P. Neto acts as an inverted winger who likes to cut inside, while Rogers can pull wide to whip it in. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the second ball. Their movement is designed to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations.

This formation provides a massive advantage through numerical superiority in midfield. Having five players in the central zones allows the team to control the ball and pick up runners easily. The team also possesses the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having the front three close to the back line, Chelsea can trigger a press and win the ball back quickly.

This 2-5-3 is a heavy attacking system designed to dominate possession and squeeze the opponent. It is best suited for games against teams that play a low block and struggle to handle central overloads.
