Starting Lineup

Santilli · López García · Abraham · Arboleda · Daniele · Pais · Perrotta · Piñero · Álvarez · Gómez · Adoryán

Banfield relies on a compact and defensive identity built to frustrate opponents and strike on the transition. This 5-4-1 formation focuses on sitting deep and making it difficult for the opposition to find space between the lines. The lineup is designed to sit in a low block and wait for the right moment to hit in behind on the transition.

Santilli guards the goal while the defensive unit holds a narrow defensive block. A back three consisting of Pais, Arboleda, and Daniele provides central stability, with Arboleda using his aerial strength to win the header in defensive duels. The wide defenders, Abraham and López García, act as attacking wing backs when the team has the ball, but they must track back quickly to form a five man line when defending. This defensive unit works together to squeeze the space in front of the goal and force the opposition to play wide.

The midfield functions as a flat four to maintain horizontal compactness. Gómez and Álvarez form the central pairing, where Álvarez works to shield the defence and Gómez looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, Piñero and Adoryán provide width, though they often drop back to help the wing backs when the team is out of possession. This group aims to win the second ball and recycle possession quickly to move the team up the pitch.

In the attacking phase, Perrotta acts as a lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. The team relies on Perrotta to find the feet of the striker or lay it off to oncoming runners. Because the attack is built through quick transitions, the wingers Piñero and Adoryán often push up to support the lone forward. The goal is to use the width provided by Abraham and López García to whip it in from the flanks or create combinations in tight spaces during a break.

Banfield gains a tactical advantage through their extreme compactness when defending, making it very hard for teams to play through the middle. They also benefit from the speed of transition, using the distance between the lines to catch opponents off balance. The ability of the wing backs to join the attack allows the team to create wide overloads once they move out of their low block.

This 5-4-1 formation provides a sturdy defensive foundation for Banfield to absorb pressure. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and rely on attacking through the central areas.
