Sándor Sallai and Gyula Lorant form the central defensive pairing, with Sándor Sallai acting as a covering defender while Gyula Lorant looks to win headers in the air. The defensive unit must stay compact to avoid being caught out when the team pushes high up the pitch.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Josef Boszik and Lajos Detari work as a two man engine room to connect the defense and the attack. Josef Boszik sits deeper to shield the defense and recycle possession, while Lajos Detari looks to drive forward with the ball to link the lines. They must work hard to cover the large spaces left behind during attacking transitions to prevent counter attacks.

The attacking front line is built around two central forwards, Fernec Puskás and Sándor Kocsis, who act as the main goal threats. Fernec Puskás uses his legendary left foot and shooting ability to threaten from distance, while Sándor Kocsis uses his aerial strength to attack crosses. Zoltan Czibor and Laszlo Budai play as wide wingers to stretch the defense. Zoltan Czibor and Laszlo Budai often cut inside to create space for the full backs to overlap or to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in the opposition box and creates many chances through a heavy presence in the final third. The team can isolate wide players in one on one situations when the wingers pull wide to spread the defense. Honvéd also benefits from the speed of transition when the double pivot wins the ball and immediately finds the four attackers.
