Starting Lineup

Horkas · Tierney · Johnston · LCB · Carter Vickers · Engels · Mcgregor · Baur · Hassan · Hogh · Duran

Celtic aims to control games through high pressing and quick transitions in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to dominate the pitch by squeezing the space in the opposition half and winning the ball back high up the pitch. The goal is to use heavy pressure to force mistakes and then move the ball forward rapidly to exploit gaps.

Horkas stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit functions as a flat back four where Johnston acts as an attacking full back to provide width. Tierney plays as a left back who can push high up the pitch to support the attack. In the center, Carter Vickers serves as a ball playing defender who can carry the ball forward, while the LCB focuses on covering the space and winning headers. They work together to keep a high line and set the offside trap.

The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier to bridge the lines. Mcgregor operates as a deep lying playmaker who drops between the centre backs to receive and recycle possession. Engels plays as an inverted eight to connect the defense to the attack, often moving into half spaces to find pockets of room. Baur plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to create chances and make late runs into the box. This midfield unit seeks to compress the midfield and deny the turn of opposition players.

The attacking front line features three attackers across the front. Hogh acts as a pressing centre forward who leads the line by harrying the opposition back line. Hassan plays as an inverted winger on the right who will cut inside to find shooting positions, while Duran acts as a wide winger on the left to spread the play wide. They use combinations to break the line and look to deliver early balls into the box. The movement of the front three is designed to isolate a one on one wide for the wingers.

Celtic benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves which forces the opponent into errors. The formation also allows for wide overloads from the overlapping runs of Johnston and Tierney. By using Mcgregor to dictate the tempo, the team maintains numerical superiority in midfield during the build up phase. This allows the players to switch play quickly and stretch the defence.

This 4-3-3 lineup is a high intensity system designed to dominate possession and pin the opponent back. It is best suited for matches where Celtic can use their superior technical ability to break down a low block.
