Starting Lineup

SK Rapid operates with a high press and verticality, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation to overwhelm opponents in their own half. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and move forward with speed. By pushing many players into advanced positions, SK Rapid aims to dominate the central areas and create constant pressure on the opposing back line.

Hedl sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The defensive line consists of a narrow duo with Raux Yao and Schöller acting as the two central defenders. Both players must be ready to step up to set the offside trap or cover wide areas when the midfield is bypassed. Because this formation relies on a very high line, Raux Yao and Schöller must be ready to sprint back to cover space if the opposition breaks quickly.

The midfield is a massive block designed to control the center of the pitch. J. Auer and Bolla form a double pivot to shield the two central defenders and secure the zone in front of the back line. Amane and Seidl operate in the half spaces to link the defensive and attacking lines, while Gulliksen plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. This five man midfield can squeeze the space between the lines to force long balls from the opposition.

In the final third, SK Rapid uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Adamsen acts as the lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Dahl and Wurmbrand operate as wide wingers, with Dahl hugging the touchline to provide width and Wurmbrand looking to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. The team builds the attack through quick combinations and looks to hit in behind on the transition once the midfield wins possession.

One major advantage of this lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to recycle possession and control the tempo. The aggressive positioning of the five midfielders creates a platform to press in pairs and win the second ball. Additionally, the wide presence of Dahl and Wurmbrand forces the opposition to spread wide, creating gaps in the middle for Gulliksen to exploit.
