DAYYAAN works to play out from the back, while TOLLA stays central to cover the space behind the full backs. JERRY and MILLS must track back quickly and hold the line to prevent being caught when the team loses possession.

The midfield acts as a shield for the defense through a double pivot. JAMA (C) acts as the captain and sits alongside HUSSEIN to deny the turn and protect the center. This captain uses his positioning to intercept passes and win it back high up the pitch. MITOMA, ETHAN, and HOENDER operate in front of the pivot to connect the defense to the attack. Moving into the half spaces, MITOMA and HOENDER create chances, while ETHAN carries the ball forward to drive the team through the thirds.

GIO works as a lone striker to lead the press from the front. This role relies on the midfielders to support the forward with late runs into the box. To help the attack, GIO must hold up the ball and allow the midfield to push up and join the play. When Man City wins the ball, the team looks to find GIO to allow the wide players to spread wide and attack the far post. The goal is to find feet in tight spaces and break the line with quick passes.

One major strength of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves using the five midfielders. The presence of JAMA (C) and HUSSEIN in the pivot provides compactness when defending against transitions. This lineup also creates numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch, which helps the team win the second ball and control the tempo.
