In the center of the pitch, the midfield operates as a double pivot with Wharton and Gravenberch. Gravenberch acts as the carrier, using his ability to carry the ball forward to break the line. Wharton sits deeper to shield the defense and recycle possession when the team needs to reset. These two players must cover a lot of ground to connect the defense to the front four. They aim to win the ball in a mid block and immediately look to find the attackers.

The front line is extremely aggressive, using two strikers in a partnership of Wirtz and Isak. Wirtz operates in the half spaces to play through the lines, while Isak looks to make runs in behind to stretch the defense. On the flanks, Barcola and Szobo provide width and cutting threat. Barcola prefers to cut inside to attack the near post, while Szobo uses his passing to whip it in to the box. This formation allows Liverpool to attack in combinations and isolate defenders in one on one situations.

This formation offers massive attacking presence and the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using four players upfront, the team creates wide overloads when the full backs overlap. The speed of transition is a major advantage, as the team can go direct to the strikers the moment they win the ball. This makes it very difficult for opponents to defend in a compact way.
