Starting Lineup

Beltran · Ulises · Quarta · Rivero · Lucero · Silva · Vera · Pereyra · Colidio · Borre · Galvan

River seeks to play a vertical and high pressing game, utilizing a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. The goal is to drive the team forward through direct play and quick transitions, making the most of every turnover in the attacking third.

Beltran guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line sits as a flat four to maintain team compactness. Ulises acts as the right back, while Lucero plays as the left back to provide width. In the center, Quarta and Rivero form the defensive pairing, with Quarta using his aerial strength to defend set pieces and Rivero acting to cover the space behind the line. This unit works together to squeeze the space and keep the opposition from playing out from the back.

The midfield is built around a central pivot and a four man block. Silva sits in front of the defense to shield the back four and recycle possession. Next to him, Galvan and Vera operate as two central midfielders who press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch. Pereyra plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. This group connects the defensive unit to the attack by moving the ball quickly through the center.

River employs two forwards to lead the line. Colidio and Borre work as a partnership in the final third. Borre acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition centre backs, while Colidio looks to make runs in behind the defense. They combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position. The wingers and full backs look to provide width, allowing the strikers to either hold up the ball or drop deep to link up play with the advancing midfielders.

One major advantage for River is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front four to trigger a press. The team also gains numerical superiority in the central areas when Pereyra moves forward. This creates many opportunities to hit in behind on the transition. The setup allows for quick combinations that can stretch the defence and force errors in the opposition half.

This 4-4-2 formation is a high intensity setup built for aggressive pressing and rapid attacking. It is best suited for matches where the team can exploit a high line or dominate through physical presence in the midfield.
