Starting Lineup

SK Rapid focuses on heavy verticality and pressing to overwhelm the opposition with a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a high intensity game where the team looks to win it back high up the pitch and push numbers forward quickly. By using a very aggressive front line and a crowded central midfield, SK Rapid aims to squeeze the space in the middle of the park and force errors from the opponent.

Hedl stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back line is a narrow two man unit consisting of Raux Yao and Horn. These central defenders must play with a high line to keep the team compact, often needing to step up to catch attackers offside or cover long balls. Because there are only two defenders, Raux Yao and Horn must be able to win the second ball and defend man to man if a striker breaks through the initial press.

The midfield is the engine of this formation, acting as a five man block that dominates the center. Bolla and Oswald operate as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and protect the center of the pitch. Seidl and Amane occupy the half spaces to provide extra passing options and help progress the ball. Gulliksen plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, acting as the main creator to play through the lines and find the forwards. This midfield unit works to compress the midfield and ensure the opponent cannot play short from the back.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Adamsen acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition center backs, while Wurmbrand and Y. Demir provide width from the wings. Wurmbrand and Y. Demir often look to cut inside to create central overloads or spread wide to whip it in. The combination of Adamsen and Gulliksen allows the team to play in tight spaces and use quick one-twos to break the line.

A major advantage of this SK Rapid lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play. The numerical superiority in midfield allows the team to recycle possession quickly and control the tempo. Additionally, the aggressive positioning of the wingers and the attacking ten creates many chances to isolate wide players in one on one situations during transitions.
