PSV focuses on high intensity verticality and heavy offensive pressure using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to stretch the opposition defense and kill games through rapid direct attacks. By pushing many bodies forward, the team aims to overwhelm the opponent in the final third and win the ball back high up the pitch immediately after losing it.

Kovar stands between the posts to command the area and organize the defensive line. The back four operates with a high line to compress the space in the middle of the pitch. Dest plays as an attacking full back on the right to provide width, while Mauro Júnior works on the left to support the wingers. In the center, Gasiorowski and Flamingo act as the central defensive pairing, where Flamingo uses his aerial strength to win headers and Gasiorowski provides cover when the line steps up to squeeze the space.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the transition between defense and attack. Veerman acts as a deep lying playmaker with a massive passing range to find teammates in advanced positions. Beside him, Wanner works to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. These two must work hard to shield the defense and cover the gaps left by the advancing full backs, ensuring the team does not get caught out when the opposition breaks quickly.

The attacking unit is extremely aggressive with three players pushed high. van Bommel and Man operate as wide wingers, with Man looking to cut inside to create central chaos. Til and Pepi lead the line as a duo of forwards, looking to run in behind the defensive line or hold up the ball to let others arrive. This front four creates constant pressure on the opposition back line, using quick combinations to split the defense with through balls and attacking the far post on crosses.

This 4-2-4 formation offers PSV significant numerical superiority in the attacking third. The wide overloads created by the wingers and full backs force the opposition to defend very wide, which creates space in the middle for Veerman or Wanner to operate. Additionally, the ability to press in coordinated waves makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back or find time on the ball.

This lineup is designed for a high tempo game where winning the ball back high is the priority. It is most effective against teams that struggle with defensive width or fail to handle rapid transitions.
